Social Media Integration Rules: Zannel LBS CityWatch App Hits iPhone
Dec 17 2008By Linda Barrabee
The latest and greatest is anything that ties mobile users to online social networking or social media sites, and/or lets them access brand new communities on mobile. The latest is Zannel’s CityWatch iPhone app, which was released on Monday.
CityWatch lets users know what’s happening around them. Users can post pictures or other media on a specific location, and other users can interact with the content and posts comments. CityWatch also connects with other social networking sites (e.g., Facebook, Flickr, Twitter, MySpace, Blogger, etc.).
Users can look at activities in their own city or other cities of interest. There is plans to add search capabilities (keyword and topic) in the future. CityWatch is free and can be found within the Social Networking category of the Apps Store.<
Without trying the app, at face value CityWatch offers some similar services as buzzd (see my post “buzzd Extends Content Portfolio”). Not a bad thing, but definitely a trend that we are seeing that is focused on letting mobile tap into the social networking/social media crazy. And, the location components certainly make for some future opportunities in the mobile marketing and advertising space.
