January 2009Contribute to the Superbowl topic channel on Zannel!
This Sunday, thousands will tune in to watch and celebrate one of the most anticipated all-American events of the year the Superbowl. Whether you’re a Steelers fan or rooting for the Cardinals (or even just watching for the halftime entertainment and the killer ads), we want you to show the rest of the Zannel community what you’re doing during Superbowl Sunday.
If you’re a Zanneler and want to help the Zannel community easily find your and other Zannelers updates at the sports bar, at a Superbowl party or even in Tampa watching the game, we urge you to tag your updates with #superbowl. This enables the community to click on that “hashtag” and see all the video, photo and text updates in one Zannel channel. With that tag, well be able to see all the Superbowl activities from Tampa to San Francisco.
Enjoy the game!
Example update: At Kezar drinking pints and watching the #superbowl
Get a virtual ticket to Sundance!
Probably the second most exciting event happening this month (after this weeks inauguration, which you can see here: Inauguration09 ) is the venerable Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. The weeklong event showcases the best independent films from all over the world. Not surprisingly, the festival also packs in celebrities, promoters, paparazzi, and party crashers into the usually quiet mountain ski town.
While being there in person may be your first choice, you can also get an on the ground look at the festival by checking out Zannels Sundance Channel. This channel gives you an insiders view of cool Sundance Film Festival activities, ambiance, parties and platters of Utah sushi (dont ask!).
If you’re an iPhone user, check out Zannels CityWatch application. It shows all the activity hotspots within a specific area, such as Park City, Utah. With CityWatch, you can see a map view of videos and photos from Zannel and Flickr as well as text updates, all happening at the festival.
2009 Inauguration
Today is a historic day for the US, as Barack Obama is sworn in as the 44th President of the United States. It marks a leap forward in race relations for the US, and a hope for major change in our approach to foreign policy, the economy, and how we approach such issues as energy and health care.
To capture the Inauguration Day, a group of Zannel’s political bloggers are braving DC’s cold weather and posting live updates to http://zannel.com/inauguration09. Watching the channel, it’s been fascinating to see the day’s events unfold from different points-of-view, and how mobile blogging can provide an intimate, real-time view of what’s going on at major events like this.
The Inauguration09 Channel shows the updates of the nine microbloggers who are in Washington D.C. for the Inauguration—many of whom also provided great updates during October’s Democratic National Convention.
You can also follow the bloggers individually:
Wisconfidence
BEWLZ
Patti4Obama
Channingb
Burnt Orange Report
DC Dean
Crack the Bell
Quinnelk
Coachk
And if you’re a Zanneler in the DC area and want the Zannel community to see your updates about this historic event, just add: #Inauguration to your update. This will make it easier for the community to find your updates by searching for #Inauguration. Your updates will also be grouped with all the other updates that have #Yeswecan in them.
New post tagging features
We just released a few nifty features you should try out!
Geotagging - When you post to Zannel you can now geotag your post with a location. This associates location information to a post so you or other users can see it on a map by clicking on that tag. You can automatically add a geotag to your post by using an iPhone or our iPhone Citywatch application. Or, if you have another mobile handset, add the information to the end of your post yourself by adding the #@ (or #at) tag followed by location information. The geotag must be the last thing in your post in order for it to be recognized by the Zannel system. So, valid Zannel geotags would look like this:
- #@ 113 Stillman Street, San Francisco CA
- #@ 94107
- #@ San Francisco, CA
Username mentions - Now when you write @username in a comment or a post, not only will that name become a clickable link to that users channel, that user will also be notified in their feed that they’ve been referenced in a post. Give it a try!
Keywords - Make your posts more searchable by adding keywords. Add a #keyword to the end of the post, where the word “keyword” is something that relates to your post, like #dogs, #food, #birthday, or whatever. If you see a #keyword in another post, you can click it to see all the other posts with that same keyword.
So, get busy adding tags, @username mentions, and location information to expand the reach of your Zannel posts. We’ll be looking for that post that says: Hey @zannel, eating some #chocolate here at #@ 123 Main Street, 11456
